Note: If the address on the ID does not match the address the member provides, an additional document may be required to verify the address (such as a lease agreement, utility bill, or similar document).

  • What is a primary share account at a credit union?

    A primary share account is the savings account that establishes your ownership share in a credit union. With us, opening a Primary Savings account and maintaining the required membership share makes you a member-owner of Greater Iowa Credit Union. The account also gives you a place to build savings, and once your balance reaches $50 or more, you can begin earning dividends.

  • What’s the minimum to open a Primary Savings account at GICU?

    You can open our Primary Savings account with just $5. That $5 deposit establishes your membership share and must be maintained in the account to remain a member. Once your balance reaches $50 or more, it becomes eligible to earn dividends based on our current rates. There is no need to start with a large deposit to establish your Greater Iowa membership.

  • Do I need a Primary Savings account to become a GICU member?

    Yes. Opening a Primary Savings account is the first step to becoming a Greater Iowa Credit Union member. Your $5 deposit represents your membership share in the credit union and makes you a member-owner. Once the account is established, you can access the broader benefits of membership, including our additional savings, checking, lending, online banking, and mobile banking services.

  • Who is eligible to join Greater Iowa Credit Union?

    Membership is available to people who live, work, worship, or attend school within our 33-county field of membership in Central and Western Iowa. You may also qualify through certain associations, employers, military affiliations, family relationships, or by living in the same household as an eligible member. Our field of membership includes counties such as Story, Polk, Dallas, Warren, Crawford, and 28 additional Iowa counties.
