Rob Bowers

Rob and his wife, Carol, have been residents of Ames since the early 1980s. Their relationship began during their time as students at Iowa State University, after which they chose to establish lifelong roots in Ames.

Rob earned his bachelor’s degree in political science and economics from Iowa State University in 1985. Following graduation, he embarked on a distinguished career with the Iowa State University Police Department, where he advanced through various positions to achieve the rank of Deputy Chief. In 1990, he completed a Master of Public Administration at Iowa State University. In addition, he served as an assessor and team leader for the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), assisting agencies nationwide in reviewing policies and procedures related to accreditation.

Rob's involvement extends beyond his professional duties to active participation in numerous community and university organizations, including service on the Ames Zoning Board of Adjustment, the Ames Planning and Zoning Commission, the Ames Human Relations Commission, the ISU Professional and Scientific Council, and the Ames Girls Softball Association. He has held leadership roles such as Chair and President across several of these boards, commissions, and organizations, and is an alumnus of the Leadership Ames program.

Rob is committed to fostering strong community relationships and promoting inclusion within every organization with which he is affiliated. His dedication to public service is evidenced by his ongoing contributions to local initiatives and volunteer work, further solidifying his connection to the community.
