Your New Greater Iowa Debit Card Is Coming Soon!
We’re excited to introduce a new design—and a new card provider—for your Greater Iowa Credit Union debit card. Starting in mid-August, members will begin receiving their upgraded Visa debit cards in the mail. There’s nothing you need to do to receive it. Just watch for your new card, activate it when it arrives, and enjoy all the same convenient features you count on, now with a bold new look and enhanced security.
This upgrade is part of our ongoing commitment to delivering a better member experience while keeping your everyday banking secure, seamless, and modern.

- You’ll automatically receive your new Visa debit card in the mail.
- Cards will begin arriving in mid-August, with a second wave mailing in late August.
- Your current Mastercard debit card will continue to work until you activate your new Visa card.
- Your card number, expiration date, and security code will change—so check your card details carefully.
- You’ll need to activate your new card and update any recurring payments.

Why is my debit card changing?
We’re upgrading to Visa debit cards to provide enhanced security, contactless payment technology, and a modern design. This change also allows us to offer expanded benefits through Visa.
When will I receive my new debit card?
New cards will begin arriving in mid-August. If you don’t receive yours right away, don’t worry—a second wave of cards will be mailed in late August, including a large number of members and all business debit cards.
Do I need to request a new card?
No. You’ll automatically receive your new card in the mail—there’s nothing you need to do to request one.
Will my card number change?
Yes. Your card number, expiration date, and security code will change. Be sure to update any recurring payments or saved cards in digital wallets once your new card is activated.
Can I continue using my current card until the new one arrives?
Yes. Your current Mastercard debit card will continue to work until you activate the new Visa card or until it expires, whichever comes first.
Will my PIN stay the same?
Yes. Your PIN will remain the same unless you choose to change it.
What should I do when my new card arrives?
Follow the activation instructions included with your card, destroy your old Mastercard debit card, and update any automatic payments with your new Visa card number.
Will this impact my checking account or online banking?
No. Your checking account, online banking, and mobile app access will stay the same.
Do I need to update my card in the GICU mobile app or online banking?
No. Your new card information will automatically update in your GICU app and online banking. However, if you have alerts set up, you may need to re-establish them to continue receiving notifications.
Who can I contact if I don’t receive my card or have issues?
